Matt Hughes talks about his upcoming fight with Thiago Alves. Although he was given the fight on short notice, Hughes states “I’m a fighter and that’s what I’m supposed to do, fight." At this fight, we'll be able to see two different fighting styles because Alves is known for his great stand-up skills and Hughes has always been an excellent ground specialist. It's a must-see bout for all mixed martial arts fans around the world. The UFC 85 event is scheduled to take place on June 7th in London, England.
Does Hughes still have that passion, the desire or the will of the former UFC welterweight champion that we all remember?
Here's a snip from Matt Hughes himself:
“To be honest, I like the matchup… He’s a stand-up guy. On the ground, he’s not nearly as dangerous. I’ll be stronger, I believe I’ll be the better wrestler and I like the fact he’s kind of a slow starter. I think I can wear him out before he gets going… They (referring to Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell) can still do it, so there’s no reason why I can’t… I’ve pulled out some of the old Matt Hughes tapes and I’m trying to get back to being that fighter…I feel like I have a lot of good fights still left and I’m excited about it… I’m thankful this opportunity came along with Thiago, because Serra’s not going to be ready to fight for a while after his fight with Georges and I’m anxious to get back. Nobody should write me off just yet.”

When Fedor Emelianenko was released by M-1 Global, Sibling Entertainment was forced to to give up the M-1 Global name over to Fedor's manager, Vadim Finkelchtein. The new name is now called Adrenaline MMA and their goal was to sign up several top-level fighters instead of having just one superstar like Fedor.
After looking at the upcoming Adrenaline MMA fight card, it seems like CEO Monte Cox has accomplished that very difficult goal of acquiring some popular well-rounded fighters. A great start for the new Adrenaline organization as they inaugurate the show with a very impressive fight card. Let's hope the event is just as good as it looks...

Mirko Cro Cop was training intensely for his upcoming bout at DREAM 4 against Jerome LeBanner. Unfortunately, Cro Cop suffered a minor leg injury during one of the training sessions. The original fight date for the Croatian sensation was set for June 29th, but he recently confirmed that he would be fighting on July 20th instead.
In a conversation he had with nokaut.com, this is what Cro Cop had to say:
"Yes, I'm going to fight on July 20. I was looking forward to appearing on the DREAM 4 card on June 15 and I based my preparations on that. I suffered a minor leg injury last week, but it doesn't affect my trainings. During a wrestling session, I slipped and felt pain in my left knee, but the medical exams have confirmed that no damage was done. I'm wearing a special bandage just as a precaution."
LeBanner is scheduled to fight Semmy Schillt on June 29th over at K-1, so the fight between Cro Cop and Lebanner will most likely be canceled. No substitute opponent has been announced yet, but we'll keep you guys posted once we're informed.

Roger "El Matador" Huerta has decided to move down to New Mexico in order to prepare for one of the biggest fights of his MMA career. Huerta continues to fight and win against top competitors in the lightweight division, but this time he'll be facing a very tough challenger. Huerta admits that Kenny Florian is a very difficult competitor and he feels that Greg Jackson would probably be the best trainer for this fight coming up in August.
Greg Jackson's camp is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and is considered by many to be one of the best MMA camps in the United States. Greg Jackson has trained notable UFC fighters including Nathan Marquardt, Keith Jardine, George St. Pierre, Rashad Evans, Leonard Garcia and UFC veteran David Loiseau.
Huerta has won 16 of his last 17 bouts (one fight against Melvin Guillard was overturned by the commission and labeled as a NC). His record is now 20-1-1 and his quest for the lightweight title is getting closer and closer. If Huerta is able to get past Florian at UFC 87, we'll be seeing a possible title shot for the young Mexican fighter.
Spike television will be having a special presentation on Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell. The show will be televised on May 31st and will feature two premiere events dedicated solely to the former UFC light heavyweight champion.
This is how the night will look on Saturday, May 31st:
The UFC has decided to dedicate the night to UFC superstar Chuck Liddell. We must remember that EliteXC will be having their first nationally televised mixed martial arts event on CBS as well.
For information regarding the EliteXC:Primetime event, click here.
Do you think this was done on purpose? We'll let you guys decide on that one. Either way, it will be a great night for MMA once again.
