UFC 85 Video: James Irvin Trains For Rashad Evans

UFC 85 Update: Jason Day vs. Michael Bisping, Chris Leben Goes To Jail

Dayprofile Chris “The Crippler” Leben was scheduled to take on Michael Bisping at the UFC 85:Bedlam event in

London

,

England

this June. Unfortunately, we’ll be missing a fight that many of us were really looking forward to watching.

So why was Leben forced off the fight card? Not too long ago, we informed everyone that Leben was arrested in

Clackamas County

,

Oregon

for a DUI.  The Crippler was denied bail and was later sentenced to 35 days of jail time.

The UFC has been very unlucky with the UFC 85 fight card. We first had Mauricio “Shogun” Rua fighting Chuck Liddell as part of the main event. There was news that Shogun had re-injured his knee and Rashad Evans would be Liddell’s new opponent. Bispingprofile3 During a training session, Liddell injured his hamstring (photo) and James Irvin came in to replace the Iceman. As part of the

London

card, Dana White decided to put Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben and Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves to make up for the canceled bouts. Now Leben is out and Jason Day has been assigned as his replacement. Day will go out on short notice to fight Bisping at the O2 arena on June 7th.

Jason Day is coming off an impressive win over Alan Belcher at UFC 83. Day beat Belcher via a TKO in the first round. Bisping is also coming into this fight after defeating Charles McCarthy via TKO in the first round. This was Bisping’s first win as a middleweight contender. The match-ups been changed several times, but Dana White has done a great job in maintaining an exciting fight card.

UFC 85: Matt Hughes Discusses His Thoughts On Thiago Alves

Matt_hughes_stands

Matt Hughes talks about his upcoming fight with Thiago Alves.  Although he was given the fight on short notice, Hughes states “I’m a fighter and that’s what I’m supposed to do, fight."  At this fight, we'll be able to see two different fighting styles because Alves is known for his great stand-up skills and Hughes has always been an excellent ground specialist.  It's a must-see bout for all mixed martial arts fans around the world.  The UFC 85 event is scheduled to take place on June 7th in London, England.

Does Hughes still have that passion, the desire or the will of the former UFC welterweight champion that we all remember?

Here's a snip from Matt Hughes himself:

“To be honest, I like the matchup… He’s a stand-up guy. On the ground, he’s not nearly as dangerous. I’ll be stronger, I believe I’ll be the better wrestler and I like the fact he’s kind of a slow starter. I think I can wear him out before he gets going… They (referring to Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell) can still do it, so there’s no reason why I can’t… I’ve pulled out some of the old Matt Hughes tapes and I’m trying to get back to being that fighter…I feel like I have a lot of good fights still left and I’m excited about it… I’m thankful this opportunity came along with Thiago, because Serra’s not going to be ready to fight for a while after his fight with Georges and I’m anxious to get back. Nobody should write me off just yet.”

Adrenalinejune14

Date:       Saturday- June 14th, 2008

Time:
    6pm ET

Sears Centre Chicago, Illinois U.S.A.

When Fedor Emelianenko was released by M-1 Global, Sibling Entertainment was forced to to give up the M-1 Global name over to Fedor's manager, Vadim Finkelchtein.  The new name is now called Adrenaline MMA and their goal was to sign up several top-level fighters instead of having just one superstar like Fedor.

After looking at the upcoming Adrenaline MMA fight card, it seems like CEO Monte Cox has accomplished that very difficult goal of acquiring some popular well-rounded fighters.  A great start for the new Adrenaline organization as they inaugurate the show with a very impressive fight card.  Let's hope the event is just as good as it looks...

Fight Card:

  • Terry Martin vs. Daiju Takase
  • Brian Gassaway vs. Tony Fryklund
  • Alberto Crane vs. Clay French

Mirko Cro Cop Suffers Minor Leg Injury, Plans To Fight In July

Crocopwalks

Mirko Cro Cop was training intensely for his upcoming bout at DREAM 4 against Jerome LeBanner.  Unfortunately, Cro Cop suffered a minor leg injury during one of the training sessions.  The original fight date for the Croatian sensation was set for June 29th, but he recently confirmed that he would be fighting on July 20th instead.

In a conversation he had with nokaut.com, this is what Cro Cop had to say:

"Yes, I'm going to fight on July 20. I was looking forward to appearing on the DREAM 4 card on June 15 and I based my preparations on that. I suffered a minor leg injury last week, but it doesn't affect my trainings. During a wrestling session, I slipped and felt pain in my left knee, but the medical exams have confirmed that no damage was done. I'm wearing a special bandage just as a precaution."

LeBanner is scheduled to fight Semmy Schillt on June 29th over at K-1, so the fight between Cro Cop and Lebanner will most likely be canceled.  No substitute opponent has been announced yet, but we'll keep you guys posted once we're informed.

Roger Huerta Trains For Kenny Florian At Greg Jackson's Camp In New Mexico

Roger "El Matador" Huerta has decided to move down to New Mexico in order to prepare for one of the biggest fights of his MMA career.  Huerta continues to fight and win against top competitors in the lightweight division, but this time he'll be facing a very tough challenger.  Huerta admits that Kenny Florian is a very difficult competitor and he feels that Greg Jackson would probably be the best trainer for this fight coming up in August.

Greg Jackson's camp is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and is considered by many to be one of the best MMA camps in the United States.  Greg Jackson has trained notable UFC fighters including Nathan Marquardt, Keith Jardine, George St. Pierre, Rashad Evans, Leonard Garcia and UFC veteran David Loiseau.

Huerta has won 16 of his last 17 bouts (one fight against Melvin Guillard was overturned by the commission and labeled as a NC).  His record is now 20-1-1 and his quest for the lightweight title is getting closer and closer.  If Huerta is able to get past Florian at UFC 87, we'll be seeing a possible title shot for the young Mexican fighter.

Special Chuck Liddell Presentation On Spike TV (May 31)

Chuck_screamin2

Spike television will be having a special presentation on Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell.  The show will be televised on May 31st and will feature two premiere events dedicated solely to the former UFC light heavyweight champion.

This is how the night will look on Saturday, May 31st:

  • 8pm ET/PT- "Ultimate Knockouts 4"
  • 9pm ET/PT-  “Ultimate Iceman: Chuck Liddell,” an hour-long documentary which chronicles the life of one of the sport’s true titans, in and out of the Octagon.
  • 10pm ET/PT- "Liddell vs. Silva: UFC Unleashed-Special Edition" featuring the never-before-seen on cable battle between Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, which was fought last December at UFC 79: Nemesis.

The UFC has decided to dedicate the night to UFC superstar Chuck Liddell.  We must remember that EliteXC will be having their first nationally televised mixed martial arts event on CBS as well.

For information regarding the EliteXC:Primetime event, click here.

Do you think this was done on purpose?  We'll let you guys decide on that one.  Either way, it will be a great night for MMA once again.
